Opportunities

Are you interested in joining our lab?

If you are motivated and have a strong interest in ecology and feel you would be a good fit for the lab, please send me:

  • A short message on why you would like to join our team, with a brief statement of which research questions you are interested in.
  •  A CV

PhD Students: You will need to apply through the Department of Biological Sciences Program at LSU. Note that all materials should be submitted September 28 (for Spring admission) or January 3rd (for Fall admission). Please also check the “Funding” section of the Lab Culture link.

Postdocs: I will be advertising a postdoc to join the lab in Fall ’24, but besides that opportunity, I am happy to explore other funding options and working on fellowship proposals.  You will find a few potential funding sources in our Lab Culture page.

Undergraduate students: We are always open to taking undergraduate students who are interested in ecological questions and are looking for research experiences to growth as scientists. Work in the lab can be for research credits or can be for hourly pay (if funded projects are available). If you are interested in this opportunity, send me an email to fmontano@lsu.edu.

Current opportunity!

We are looking for a PhD student that is interested in working with genomics of cloud forest birds to join our lab in Spring ’26 or Fall ’26. The student will work with museum historical and current specimens from the Bolivian cloud forest to assess population-level responses to climate and habitat changes as part of our resurvey Bolivia project.
